Education and Professional Career

Robert Arellano was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas.  After graduating Clark High School, Robert was accepted to Texas State University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.  Robert moved back to San Antonio and taught Spanish and coached athletics at Southwest High School for the next 3 years.

In 2007, Robert was accepted to St. Mary’s University Law School and graduated with his Juris Doctor in 2010. While at St. Mary’s, Robert received a pro bono certificate for his work with the St. Mary’s Civil Justice Clinic. Robert also competed in numerous moot court competitions and was the brief writer for the Jessup Moot Court team.

After graduating law school, Robert briefly worked for the Law Office of Nicholas and Barrera before taking a job as a bankruptcy attorney in Dallas, Texas. In 2012, Robert made the decision to switch to criminal law as a prosecutor for the Travis County Attorney’s Office in Austin, Texas. While at the TCAO Robert gained jury trial experience with Misdemeanor DWIs and Family Violence cases.

In 2018, Robert joined the Travis County District Attorney’s Office where he gained felony trial experience as an Assistant District Attorney. During his time prosecuting in Travis County Robert gained legal experience with every level of misdemeanor and felony charges including juvenile law.  Robert is licensed federally in the Western, Eastern, Southern and Northern Districts of Texas.

In the Spring of 2022, Robert moved his family back to San Antonio accepting a job offer to practice criminal defense.  After two years of working at a criminal defense firm Robert made the decision to go out on his own and start his own business, The Law Office of Robert Barrera Arellano, PLLC.  “What I like the most about working as a defense attorney is being able to hear my clients’ version of the events, being able to listen to how they felt during a particularly difficult moment in their life.  As a prosecutor for more than 10 years, I learned a lot from the State’s perspective, but I knew there was still a lot to learn about criminal law. I felt that there was a great opportunity to continue my learning at a faster rate by switching over to the Defense.”
